First Journal Entry: March 1

These past few weeks in JMS 220 have been very educating and interesting. I’ve enjoyed the lectures and slides that we are given and have found them very helpful as an aspiring journalist. I also like how my lab instructor gives us feedback in a timely manner so I can make any necessary changes as soon as possible.

I’ve been learning a lot about AP Style throughout this class. The news briefs have been very helpful and I appreciate the feedback to understand which mistakes I was making. I also like how my lab instructor goes over common mistakes so our class can learn and improve. The AP Style Handbook is very helpful and I’m glad that we have that resource to rely on when needed.

Throughout the news briefs, I have learned to add more details in my writing. I’ve always been a pretty concise writer so I enjoy writing the news briefs. Since there is a small word count, it can be difficult to add all of the information that we are given and still have the story make sense. However, I enjoy the challenge to add enough details within the word count since it is making me a better writer.
